Perennial

Perennial is an 80-page publication exploring the overlap between concepts and ideas in Quantum Physics and Eastern Mysticism. It was curated and designed in Adobe inDesign, featuring various authors. It has a hard cover made with book board and book cloth, and a sewn exposed binding.

Research

Having had an interest in quantum physics and Eastern mysticism, I was able to incorporate my own past research into my project. However, being such an information-dense topic, gathering content for my publication was quite the endeavor. I sourced around a dozen books and websites for the final result.

Ideation

Next, I looked toward possible visual languages to inpire my own publication. I was intrigued by visuals already present in quantum mechanics, and textures that emulate a similar look.

Development

As I put together my spreads in inDesign, I aimed to strike a balance between expressive and visually striking textures and imagery with informative and interesting text.

For the included textures, I used my own photography and developed a few image treatments in photoshop to transform my pictures into more abstract visuals to be incorporated.

Craft

For my final publication, I put together a hard cover with an exposed binding. I used letterpress to print the title onto my book cloth, then glued it to book board. I sewed together y 5 signatures of 16 pages which can be seen on the exposed binding, For the inner and outer covers, I drew quantum inspired patterns with metallic paint pen.

Reflection

Next, I looked toward possible visual languages to inpire my own publication. I was intrigued by visuals already present in quantum mechanics, and textures that emulate a similar look.
