Writer's Block

My partner and I developed a visual system for a conference dedicated to an in-depth exploration of graffiti and street art culture. The event delves into its rich history, examines its impact and evolution, and envisions its future directions. Our design style highlights the spirit of creative freedom that defines graffiti and street art culture.

Process

Research

Being in Seattle where there is a rich culture of graffiti and street art, we were driven and inspired to represent this scene well in our visual system. We researched notable names, movements, styles, and cultural shifts in this community,

Ideation

Street art is very visually diverse, so we had a lot of potential directions to go with visually. We navigated the challenge of letting the art itself shine while still keeping a unique and unified style for our conference.

Development

Through the iteration process, we explored different color palettes, typography, and photo treatments while developing posters, merchandise, logos, web design, and more promotional materials.

Finishing Up

We ended up with a bold orange as our hero color, and a grungy photo treatment to unify our visual system.

Reflection

Creating a visual system for a whole conference with Bev was a super fun experience. I learned the importance of keeping a streamlined and unified system through tools like style tiles and collaborative softwares like Figma when branding goes across so many different platforms. If we were to continue this project, I would seek to hone in on our existing website design and further develop merchandise and video bumpers.
